Sweden leak explained by Swascan

Sweden leak: and it’s a disaster!

How can it be so bad? It can… And it’s even worse than you think! Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen) is responsible for a massive accident (see the Equifax breach): the Sweden leak. Basically, the information leak concerns all of the country sensitive data. It goes from transporters data to military secrets. And this inevitably affects all citizens security and consequently the security of the whole country. Swedish media report a hack in the very same company we said before. This is a consequence of an outsourcing deal with IBM. This led to chaos.

The content of the leak

This Sweden leak regards names, images, addresses of millions of Swedish citizens. But there is more than that. Actually  we can find the names of the Swedish Air Force pilots, the members of secret military units, police suspects, people under witness protection and the weight capability of roads and bridges. And this is not over yet! One thing is sure: Sweden must face one of the worst technological disasters of all time! It is a catastrofic event.

It has happened in such as a big country as Sweden

The event started in 2015 when the Swedish Transport Agency developed this outsourcing deal with IBM and let IBM manage all of its databases and networks. This company, however, uploaded the whole database on cloud servers. We already said about the information inside this database. About the sensitiveness of the data. Later, the same company sent in a clean text email to marketers that subscribed to it this database. What could be worst? The fact that they asked the marketers to delete this list with a second email. They discovered the huge mistake they made but they tried to fix it using an even worst method. The worst part, however, is yet to come! This outsourcing deal let IBM personnel – outside Sweden – in the company systems without any strict security check. Of course, that’s why IBM administrators in Czech Republic could access all log-in credentials and all data.

Sweden exposure: security is crucial

According to Falkvinge – founder of the Pirate party – all of the data listed before is now accessible. Moreover, it will be really hard to put in a safe condition the whole database until next winter. Swascan helps companies protect their data and offers multiple solutions and opportunities.
